Sept. 20, 2022—The Automotive Service Association hosted a webinar last Friday that discussed elements of the Advanced Clean Cars II regulations.
According to a press release, the webinar was a conversation between Bob Redding, ASA’s Washington, D.C. representative, and Steve Douglas, vice president for energy and environment at the Alliance for Automotive Innovation. They discussed the California Air Resource Board Advanced Clean Cars II regulations.
CARB approved the Advanced Clean Cars II regulations last month. These regulations plan to lower emissions from light-duty passenger car, truck and SUV emissions starting with the 2026 model year. The ultimate goal is for all new vehicles sold in California to be zero-emission by 2035.
Additionally, Advanced Clean Cars II regulations require access and disclosure for zero-emission vehicles that are also required for current ICE vehicles under California Service Information Regulations. This is relevant for independent repair shop owners. During the webinar, Douglas expressed how important it is for shops to make investments toward electric vehicle training and tools.
The webinar went over the history behind Advanced Clean Cars II as well as the development of widespread electric vehicle deployment and more. Douglas also acknowledged that independent repair shops conduct 70 percent of post-warranty repairs. The webinar also outlined the relationship between the Automotive Service Association and the Alliance for Automotive Innovation.
