DENSO Announces Mass Expansion

July 2, 2014

July 2, 2014—DENSO Corp. announced Tuesday it would expand its presence in Mexico in 2015–16 to increase parts production for its U.S. and South American customers.

The company will expand its existing plant in Apodaca, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to increase transmission components production for its U.S. customers. The plant, which initially opened in 1996, will be expanded by more than 8,800 square feet and will add 500 more jobs in the next four years. Parts production will begin in December of 2015.

HAMANAKODENSO Co., a DENSO Group company, will also add a new facility in Salina Victoria City, Mexico, to produce solenoids for engine and airflow control units for both U.S. and South American customers. The new facility will employ around 340 people by 2018. Construction will begin in January with parts production starting around August of 2016.

Combined, the two additions represent an $89.6 million investment. The growth is part of the company’s plan to invest nearly $1 billion in North America, $750 million of which will go to expansion in the U.S.
