March 14, 2016—Acura’s long-awaited NSX arrives soon with what some consider to be the most technologically advanced, all-wheel drive, hybrid powertrain—one that may trickle down into future, more mainstream Acura models, according to a report from Mashable.
The NSX, with 573 hp 476 lb-ft, is powered by two front-mounted electric motors, one powering each front wheel, while a mid-mounted 3.5L V6 with an additional electric motor connects to a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission powering the rear wheels.
The $156,000 NSX has a drivetrain similar to that of the $1 million Porsche 918 Spyder at a fraction of the price. It is affordable technology that Mashable argues is more advanced than the more expensive Porsche.
Acura plans to put the advanced all-wheel drive hybrid powertrain, one that Acura claims takes the same amount of maintenance as the MDX crossover SUV, in its other models as well, making future models just as quick-handling and efficient as the NSX.
