Chevy, GM Recall Issued for Seat Frame Welding

June 14, 2022

Certain 2022 models of the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon have been recalled due to improper welding that could cause an increased risk of injury.

June 14, 2022—Certain 2022 models of the Chevy Colorado and the GMC Canyon have been recalled because of an issue with the front seat frames.

According to GM Authority, a total of around 1,534 vehicles are affected by this recall. The 2022 models in question are only the ones with manual slide adjust.

The problem stems from a front passenger seat hook attachment that was not welded properly. This can result in the piece seperating from the inboard track of the seat frame.

The reason why this is a potential hazard is because the improper welding could mean that a passenger is not properly restrained in the vehicle. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash.

Owners of vehicles affected by this recall are expected to receive notification letters by July 11, 2022. If included in the recall, technicians will look over the front passenger seat and replace the metal cushion frame if deemed necessary.
