Feb. 22, 2016—Nearly 90 million additional Takata Corp. airbag inflators are being examined by U.S. auto safety regulators for a possible recall, according to a report by Reuters.
As many as 120 million Takata inflators in U.S. vehicles may endanger drivers because of ammonium nitrate, a chemical that is used in the inflators that can cause inflators to rupture and explode, according to the report.
The number of vehicles affected is still unclear because many have more than one inflator, and not always from the same manufacture, reports Reuters.
If the recall happens, that would quadruple the 29 million inflators recalled so far.
